In 2017, the deal value of Chinese M&As in ASEAN surged to $34.1 billion, rising by 268 percent and representing a quarter of the total value of disclosed Chinese M&As, accounting firm Ernst & Young (EY) said in a report.
"Taking advantage of its geographic location as a trade hub under the BRI, ASEAN has achieved steady growth in recent years," said Andrew Choy, EY's Greater China International Tax Services Leader.
Looking forward, China and ASEAN are expected to further improve their relationship and expand broader cooperation under the BRI, Choy said.
HNA Group, one of China's largest conglomerates, has confirmed its interest in investing in Thailand's grand infrastructure project by setting up a major fund with a local partner, as the group enhances its footprint in ASEAN and along the Belt and Road.

Northwest China's Gansu province saw robust growth in its foreign trade with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2023, with total import and export value expanding 55 percent year-on-year to 8.94 billion yuan ($1.26 billion), according to local customs.

Construction machinery made by Guangxi Mesda Group Co Ltd has entered the markets of ASEAN countries like Thailand in recent years, and has been warmly welcomed by local customers.
Huang Kanghua, chairman of the company, said that ASEAN countries have a great demand for China's advanced technology and products.
"We are full of confidence in the ASEAN market," Huang said.

Data from customs of Nanning, the regional capital, showed that in the first 11 months of 2023, Guangxi's trade with ASEAN reached 293.06 billion yuan ($ 41 billion), a 21.8 percent increase year-on-year, higher than Guangxi's overall foreign trade growth.
In the field of digital economy, the China-ASEAN Information Harbor Co Ltd, established in Nanning in 2016, is spearheading the region's digital transformation and cooperation with ASEAN countries.
"Our company has selected advanced and applicable internet application technologies for collaboration with ASEAN countries, promoting the transfer of cutting-edge digital technologies overseas," said Lu Dongliang, chairman and president of China-ASEAN Information Harbor Co Ltd.

This year's conference, co-hosted by China Daily and Hong Kong Coalition, and themed "When GBA Meets ASEAN - One Heart and One Mind" to explore the emerging opportunities in the two regions, comprises three panel discussions, focusing on green finance, the integration of green technology in daily life, and the preservation of art and culture for sustainable tourism.
