Cao Lei, director of the China E-Commerce Research Center, said the donations from major tech enterprises embody their social responsibilities and have positive social impact, as the novel coronavirus spreads throughout the country and concerns everyone.
Cao Bin, deputy president of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, is the principal investigator of the phase-3 study, which will evaluate the efficacy and safety of remdesivir in hospitalized adult patients with mild and moderate novel coronavirus infection, according to Clinical-Trials.
Cao Hongying, executive vice-president of the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, pointed out that the release of the report has provided a role model for foreign-funded enterprises to fulfill social responsibility and continually carry out communication with stakeholders in China.

"To deepen its penetration to lower-tier markets, Alibaba's unique strengths are its brand value as well as its army of well-established sub-platforms, and an entire ecosystem from logistics to financial services," said Cao Lei, research director of China E-Commerce Research Center.
"In this context, even as social network seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle for Alibaba, the vast consumer market is not necessarily a zero-sum game," Cao said, adding that various players can expand the pie together using respective growth strategies.
"The core of 'new retail' is consumer-centered, which means the comprehensive integration of membership, payment, inventory, service and other data, and the linkage of online and offline industry, which will definitely have a profound impact on the future development of Chinese business," said Cao Lei, director of the China E-commerce Research Center.
But Tmall's dominance is under siege by the likes of JD and Pinduoduo, both of which are backed by Tencent, said Cao Lei, director of the China E-commerce Research Center.
But overall such trends will inevitably squeeze profit margins, as average spending per capita from these cities is normally lower than those in cities such as Shanghai and Beijing, said Cao Lei, director of the China E-Commerce Research Center.
"That's why e-commerce platforms are powering a hybrid growth engine: the lower-price end on some portfolios and the higher-value end (on others)," Cao noted.
The move aims to meet the evolving preferences of Chinese consumers who shun preservatives in their quest for a healthier lifestyle, said Cao Hui, vice-president of consumer brands for Fonterra China.
"The fresh milk market is projected to enjoy 18.5 percent compound annual growth in the three years starting from 2018," Cao told a news conference in Shanghai.
