Despite the domestic helicopter sector still being in its infancy and the market scale being much smaller than in Europe and the United States, it has quickly caught up in recent years.
The Chinese mainland now stands as the second-largest helicopter market in the Asia-Pacific region, right after Australia.
Airbus Helicopters has further expanded its presence in China, with its H135 helicopter final assembly line in Qingdao, Shandong province commencing operations Wednesday.
The first helicopter assembled in Qingdao is expected to roll off the line in the second half of this year.
The H135, a light, twin-engine helicopter, operates primarily in the emergency medical services, search and rescue, law enforcement, firefighting and tourism sectors.
The production will start with an annual capacity of 18 helicopters, and could be doubled in the next few years to accommodate growing demand, said the European company, considered the largest helicopter manufacturer worldwide.
"This achievement is a testament to our continued commitment to the Chinese helicopter industry and the strong spirit of cooperation that exists between us and our Chinese partners," she said in Qingdao.
"Despite positive impacts of US tax reform on new helicopter purchase plans in North America, an inconsistent economic outlook for international markets has resulted in lower purchase plans worldwide from fleet managers when compared with a year ago," said Heath Patrick, president for Americas Aftermarket of Honeywell Aerospace.
"Despite limited inputs, new helicopter purchase plans were stable in China, showing that about 21 percent of the fleet would be replaced or expanded by a new helicopter over the next five years," said Honeywell.
For the outlook of civilian-use helicopter market, Honeywell expected that new helicopter platforms would support market growth.
"Despite respondents having a slightly less positive view of the global economic outlook in this year's survey compared with 2018, new helicopter platforms will support an expected 3 to 4 percent annual growth rate in overall deliveries," Honeywell said.
"The predicted increase in deliveries signals an overall healthy helicopter market poised for moderate growth.
Airbus' helicopter division in China held a 40 percent market share as of late 2017.
An H135 helicopter final assembly line is under construction in Qingdao, Shandong province, which will become the first H135 final assembly line outside of Europe.

"The domestic helicopter sector is relatively small, and if there are no protections, foreign investments will pour in and the domestic helicopter industry will struggle to survive and grow," Wu, a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said on the sidelines of the ongoing two sessions.
Currently, China has about 400 civil helicopters, and those made domestically account for about 10 percent of the civil helicopter market.
"The domestic helicopter industry is set to expand rapidly, which will serve as a prerequisite and provide the pressure and driving force for further growth of the sector in China.
He said the performance, lifespan and reliability of domestically constructed helicopter engines are pre-eminent, but there is still a gap between domestic and foreign-made levels.
Foreign helicopter manufacturers, including European manufacturer Airbus SE and US manufacturer Bell Helicopter Textron Inc, together take about half of the civil turbine market share in China.
These helicopters will be used to accelerate the company's presence in the utility and helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) missions throughout China, according to Airbus Helicopters China.
China's helicopter industry has experienced around 20 percent annual growth over the past five years and Airbus expects this trend to continue, according to Veve.
