The nine listed companies also said in their notices that after the completion of the transfer, CSSC will be able to optimize core capacities to focus on the development of marine defense equipment, ship, offshore equipment and technology application industries, as well as marine service business to build a world-class shipbuilding group with a reasonable industrial structure, leading quality and efficiency, and strong international competitiveness.
Li Zheng, Party chief of Chongming district, said the government aims to promote the development of a marine equipment industry cluster on Changxing Island worth 100 billion yuan ($15.5 billion).
The vessels, about 366 meters long and 51 meters wide each, are designed by the Marine Design &Research Institute of China under China State Shipbuilding Corp. Powered by CSSC's WinGD main engines, the entire order will be delivered in 2023 and 2024, said Zhang Haiying, naval architect at the Marine Design& Research Institute of China.
Further collaboration between the two sides also includes the establishment of a global bunkering supply network and expansion of the use of natural gas as a cleaner marine fuel through LNG bunkering solutions, CNOOC said.
In addition to sightseeing, the AS700 will also be suitable for a wide variety of operations such as mineral prospecting, marine surveillance, cargo transport and emergency rescue, Zhang said, with project managers estimating that as many as 100 of the craft will be needed to meet market demand in the coming decade.
Chimelong Group, one of China's leading theme park operators, will open a marine science park this year in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong province, according to the company.
The park, which will be the largest indoor marine science park in the world, will display about 300 varieties of rare marine animals, according to Jiang Minling, general manager of the Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Resort.
"As the world's largest database of living marine resources, we will team up with leading experts and science institutes to save more rare marine animals," Jiang said.
Based on the prosperous Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, China Southern Airlines General Aviation Ltd will further develop the civil aviation transport market, including marine transport, emergency rescue services, island sightseeing, short-distance air services, medical assistance, maintenance services, navigation training and related business in the future, said the statement.
The group has been turning many of these factors into growth opportunities and providing solutions to customers in various sectors by partnering with domestic players such as cargo container producer China International Marine Containers (Group) Ltd, high-speed train manufacturer CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co Ltd, heavy truck manufacturer China National Heavy Duty Truck Group and 5G technology provider Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.
The 12 projects signed by the Changxing Industrial Park and institutions including Shanghai Jiao Tong University and China United Investment Holding Co Ltd cover areas such as marine equipment, smart manufacturing, new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection, integrated circuit, biomedicine, and financial services.
Li Zheng, Party chief of the Chongming district which oversees the Changxing Island, said that the district authority will strive to build Changxing into a leader in marine technology innovation.
The island is home to a marine equipment industry and is a popular sightseeing destination.
It has been designated as a national model base for new industries and a national-level demonstration zone for marine economy development.
With shores that are as deep as 22 meters, the island has an advantage in the industrial development of marine equipment and has already attracted leading enterprises in high-end manufacturing and technological innovation such as Jiangnan Shipyard, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery (Group) Co Ltd, and China Cosco Shipping Corporation Ltd over the past years.
The feasible technical scheme has been widely recognized by authoritative institutions and important customers such as China Railway Rolling Stock Corp, China International Marine Containers (Group) and CRRC Qingdao Sifang Vehicle Research Institute Co Ltd. Relying on its patented technological advantages and customer confidence, the company signed the world's first dual-use unloader supply contract for open-top containers and open wagons last year.
The Shanghai-based shipbuilder said that it has put in place a complete marine LNG industrial equipment chain after more than two decades of research and development.
Bao Zhangjing, vice-president of the China Institute of Marine Technology and Economy－a research institute affiliated with CSSC－said over 70 percent of orders received by Chinese shipbuilders so far this year were made by domestic shipowners including China COSCO Shipping Corp, China National Petroleum Corp and China Merchants Group.
The two sides will cooperate in a wide range of areas including smart transportation equipment, high-end maritime equipment, marine environmental protection technology, maritime policy and technical regulation studies, international maritime affairs and maritime security equipment.
