"The overcapacity reduction campaign also focuses on green development through means such as replacing outdated capacity with clean, effective and advanced capacity, and this has led to the establishment of the world's most strict environmental protection standards," said Li Xinchuang, president of the China Metallurgical Industry Planning & Research Institute.
"With an emerging trend that many steel recyclers are seeking to set up branches overseas, the industry is unlikely to be impacted, as imported scrap steel makes up a very small part of total scrap steel consumption, which is about 1 percent," said Guo Daqing, chief-researcher and analyst from the industry newspaper China Metallurgical News.
"Guo of China Metallurgical News noted that despite recent tightening policies on scrap steel imports, it will see a boom for a long time in China.
"Improving industry concentration is necessary for the further development of the Chinese steel industry as the overcapacity cuts have proved beneficial," said Li Xinchuang, president of the China Metallurgical Industry Planning & Research Institute.
Li from the China Metallurgical Industry Planning & Research Institute said though market-oriented M&As and development funds will be good measures to boost industry concentration, there remains some difficulties.
Zhang Longqiang, vice-president of the China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute, said progress made in the steel industry has provided a solid basis for China to realize energy conservation and green development.
