According to the company's 2030 development plan, it aims to produce 67 to 72 tons of gold, 80 to 85 tons of copper, 47 to 50 tons of lead, 290 to 330 tons of iron ore concentrate and 240 to 300 tons of silver in 2022.
Having done business with China for some 120 years, BHP said China is a major market for BHP's diversified portfolio of commodities and the company has shipped 2 billion metric tons of iron ore to support China's remarkable growth story.
- Chinese shipyard Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Ltd has built a large ore carrier for Kukje Maritime Investment Corporation (Kmarin) of the Republic of Korea, the Chinese shipbuilder said.
The ore carrier measuring 340 meters in length and boasting a cargo capacity of 325,000 metric tons is expected to be delivered to the ROK company in July this year.
In addition to the ore carrier, Yangzi Xinfu completed building three other vessels in the first quarter, including one 12,690-TEU container ship and two 208,000-ton bulk cargo carriers.
Vale supplied 192 million metric tons of iron ore and pellets to China in 2020, accounting for 67 percent of the company's total sales and surpassing the 61 percent in the same period of 2019, according to Tracy Xie, president of Vale China.
The company has supplied China with around 2.6 billion tons of high-quality iron ore products as well as other mineral resources by the end of 2020.
China, the world's top iron ore importer, imported 1.17 billion tons of the commodity last year, up 9.5 percent on a yearly basis, according to the General Administration of Customs.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Beijing Iron Ore Trading Center during the third China International Import Expo in Shanghai in November.
Vale will also launch an iron ore spot trading platform on Chinese instant-messaging app WeChat in early 2021 to facilitate yuan-denominated transactions.
"Xie said the country's pursuit of high-quality development, which is expected to boost industrial upgrading as well as the decarbonization process of its steel industry, will be an important development opportunity for Vale, as high-quality ore products will be more valued.
Vale has been working hard to ensure the supply of high-quality iron ore to China, and aims to achieve a 400 million tons per year run rate capacity at the end of 2022.
Qingdao has been home to one of China's major ports for importing bulk resources such as crude oil, iron ore, coal and rubber.
A prominent mining and metals company, Rio Tinto is also one of the world's largest iron ore miners.
It enjoys huge demand from China, the largest iron ore consuming country, said Zhu Yi, a Hong Kong-based analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.
According to Zhu, Rio Tinto's iron ore shipments increased 3 percent year-on-year in the first half of this year, driven by strong demand from China and constraints on seaborne supply.
"China's steel output rose this year as downstream demand from infrastructure construction picked up on government's investments, boosting inbound shipments of iron ore," she said.
"Rio Tinto and China Baowu Steel Group see their Bao-HI Ranges iron ore joint venture reaching more than 200 million metric tons of iron ore, shipped from Pilbara in Western Australia to mills in China recently.
Rio Tinto has supplied 3 billion tons of iron ore to China as of last month, and together with its partners, has helped build a booming steel industry in the country since its first shipment of iron ore to Shanghai in 1973.
Located in the Shulanghu Ore Transfer Terminal in Zhoushan city, Zhejiang province, the Vale Shulanghu Grinding Hub is designed to have a total of three production lines, with a total nominal capacity of 3 million tons per year.
The Shulanghu Grinding Hub is the result of an extensive partnership between Vale and the NZP Group that dates back to 2016 when the two parties began to cooperate on ore blending to produce Brazilian Blended Fines (BRBF).

As a leader in global stainless steel, Tisco is present in iron ore mining, steel production, processing, distribution and trade.
The company said the initial phase consists of production of 12 million tons of bauxite ore per year.
Chinese steel mills are looking to gain a greater say in iron ore pricing by opting for yuan-denominated settlements, with a key deal concluded in the Chinese currency recently.
Baoshan Iron and Steel Co Ltd (Baosteel), a subsidiary of China Baowu Steel Group, completed a 100 million yuan ($14.1 million) iron ore settlement deal via blockchain technology with mining giant Rio Tinto Plc, after inking yuan purchase deals with Brazil's Vale in January and Australia's BHP Group in April.
