China Mobile said on Tuesday the US Federal Communications Commission's decision to add China Mobile International USA to a list of alleged national security threats lacked factual basis, deliberately smeared and unfairly treated Chinese companies.

"As China has made clear on various occasions, the allegation of 'forced labor' in Xinjiang is nothing but an enormous lie propagated by anti-China elements to smear China," Wang said, adding that the rights and interests of people of all ethnic backgrounds in Xinjiang are effectively protected.

Under the guise of the human rights issue, the US has made groundless accusations and hyped the myth of "forced labor" and other issues concerning Xinjiang in order to smear China's image, interfere in China's internal affairs, curb China's development, and undermine the prosperity and stability of Xinjiang, the statement said.

A representative for Ghosn replied in a statement that the allegations made against the former Nissan chairman "will be revealed for what they are: part of an unsubstantiated smear campaign against Carlos Ghosn to prevent the integration of the Alliance and conceal Nissan's deteriorating performance".
