The project, designed to heat 242,400 sq m, would help reduce carbon consumption by 12,100 metric tons, soot by 2.09 million tons, sulfur dioxide by 14,000 tons and nitrogen dioxide by 850,000 tons.

The use of clean energy in shipping can help reduce sulfur oxide emission by 99 percent and particulate matter by 98 percent, compared with current oil tankers.

Enterprises in the industry accelerated green and low-carbon transformation last year, with considerable reduction in energy consumption and sulfur dioxide emissions per tonne of steel produced, said the association.

The clean energy it produced is estimated to be equivalent to the electricity generated by 31.8 million tons of standard coal, respectively reducing carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions by 86.9 million tons and 19,400 tons, said Chen Hui, head of the Three Gorges hydroelectric plant.

This use of nuclear energy for heating is expected to reduce the burning of 23,200 metric tons of coal annually, cut soot emissions by 222 tons, sulfur dioxide by 382 tons, nitric oxide by 362 tons and of carbon dioxide by 60,000 tons, said the company.

The volume of the clean electricity the Three Gorges Dam generated in 2020 is equivalent to saving 34.39 million tons of standard coal and reducing emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides by 94.02 million, 224,000 and 212,000 tons respectively, a boon to China's efforts to build a clean, safe, efficient and low-carbon energy system and contributing to its green development initiatives.

The power transmitted to the southern part of Anhui province is equivalent to the energy produced by about 16 million tons of standard coal, cutting emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide by 43.2 million tons, 136,000 tons and 118,400 tons, respectively, according to the State Grid's Xinjiang branch.

The clean electricity helped reduce 83.2 million tons of coal use and cut emissions by 225 million tons of carbon dioxide and 700,000 tons of sulfur dioxide, according to Guo Xiaolong with the State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co Ltd. To date, Xinjiang's installed capacity of green energy production has exceeded 30 million KW, and the clean electricity has been transmitted to 19 municipalities, provinces and regions through four channels.

That saved approximately 10.5 million metric tons of standard coal consumption and reduced emissions including 27.6 million tons of carbon dioxide and 210,000 tons of sulfur dioxide.

The electricity transmission helped China's central and eastern regions reduce about 96 million tons of coal use, and cut carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions by 259.2 million tons and 816,000 tons, respectively.

New regulations have made it mandatory for the shipping industry to reduce its carbon footprint, leading to steps like the 2020 sulfur cap, water ballast regulations and carbon emission reduction rules, said Martin Stopford, nonexecutive president of Clarkson Research.

Delivering on pledgesZhejiang Energy Group, which upgraded its power plants with the system, says emissions of sulfur dioxide are down 83 percent against national emissions standards, nitrogen oxides are down 50 percent and particulates 67 percent.

This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 38.28 million tons, sulfur dioxide by 370,000 tons and nitric oxide by 240,000 tons, said CGN, one of China's biggest nuclear power operators.

The commitment shall reduce 600,000 tons of sulfur oxide emissions, equivalent to shutting down over 64 million National IV Standard trucks for a year, it said.

Earlier, the organization announced a more sharply regulated shipping emissions standard, with a global sulfur cap of 0.5 percent on marine fuel starting Jan 1, 2020, compared with the current global sulfur cap on bunker fuel of 3.5 percent.

"China will see its refinery capacity boosted in the 2019-21 period and refiners are gearing up to produce higher-quality fuels with less sulfur to reduce pollution," she said.

"Each gigawatt of nuclear capacity built in place of coal - about the size of one new nuclear power plant - will avoid the emission of around 8 million tons of carbon dioxide each year, as well as sulfur and nitrogen oxides and particulates.

According to Wu, as coal mining goes deeper, many coal varieties are found to have high sulfur content, which makes coal products less suitable for power generation.

That is the world's strictest, with sulfur dioxide discharged in gas waste less than 30 milligrams per cubic meter and nitrogen oxide less than 50 milligrams per cubic meter.

With such a vivid and intelligent approach, the company said they could increase the qualified rates of selected copper grade and sulfur grade by 11.34 percent and 4.43 percent, respectively.

If this terminal handles an annual throughput of 3 million TEU, it would reduce 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and 697 tons of sulfur dioxide discharges.

Therefore, some projects, particularly clean coal technology, were included as support target for green finance because they can bring down the levels of sulfur dioxide, oxynitride and dust, though they cannot bring down the levels of carbon dioxide.

It is estimated that every year, the projects supported by the six carbon-neutral bonds will help preempt 41.65 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and 20,900 tons of sulfur dioxide from entering atmosphere, and also reduce use of standard coal by 22.57 million tons, according to the evaluation and verification report of each bond.

Upon completion and after subtracting the emissions from burning natural gas, the project is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 595,700 tonnes, particulate matter by 3,700 tonnes, sulfur dioxide by 1,488 tonnes and nitrogen oxide by 4,442 tonnes, according to the statement.

After the project is completed, the farm will generate 112.01 gigawatt hours of electricity a year, saving 36,500 metric tons of standard coal yearly, as well as cutting the annual emission of sulfur dioxide by 39.2 tons and carbon dioxide by 103,900 tons.

Wuyang Steel Co Ltd in Pingdingshan, a State-owned company, for instance, was found to have been emitting waste air directly without removing sulfur as required, it said.
