Dr Anthony Fauci on Monday warned that the upcoming Christmas holiday season may be even worse than Thanksgiving in terms of spreading the coronavirus.
Fauci told CNN that because the Christmas season stretches into New Year's, the prospects for spreading the virus as people travel "may be even more compounded than what we saw at Thanksgiving".
"The period from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day is usually our peak season in the overseas markets.

Other retail giants like Kmart, JC Penney, Dollar General, Target, Macy's, Kohl's and DSW will open on Thanksgiving Day.
In the US, the 2018 online sales total for Thanksgiving Day was $3.7 billion, up 28 percent from the previous year.
And for US cranberry producers, the tariffs are crimping sales of the fruit that is a staple of American Thanksgiving dinners.
Trading volume was relatively light with the session ending at 1 pm ET following the Thanksgiving Day holiday, so investors said the day's action might carry less significance.
